County Fair Junior Livestock Show and the farm animals in the livestock area. The 4H club , FFA and Grange youth livestock projects are just as competitive as any sporting event. Youth agriculture groups compete with annual auction from all over the county.  I have a niece who has been participating in the program for three years.  She has raised pygmy goats, lambs, swine and a variety of small barnyard animals.

One of my large-scale paintings was shown at the Santa Paula Art Museum last year.  The show was “Art About Agriculture” celebrating local agriculture heritage and contemporary agriculture.  The exhibition explores all of the facets of agriculture from workers to water, machinery to soil, to the food that goes on our plates.  Address of the Santa Paula Museum is 117 North 10th St.  Santa Paula, Ca.  My painting being shown is “Boy With Lamb,”  7 1/2 feet by 4 feet, acrylic on unstretched canvas.

Series of Ventura County Fair Paintings

I  am in the process of doing a series of large-scale paintings! Chickens, rabbits, sheep and goats, swine, cattle are just a few of the animals that are displayed by the youth. These animals have been raised by county residents, and are showcased for all to see. Then there is a Junior Livestock Auction – an authentic livestock auction.  I have finished six large-scale paintings of the young adults who raise a variety of animals for their annual auction.  Also included in the series of Ventura County Fair paintings are some of the horse events along wish a few of the people that I have seen at the fairgrounds.

The painting you see in the photograph is of Luis, a tattoo artist who works in a tattoo shop in the same complex where my studio is located. As you can see, he is covered in tattoos including his face. He has plenty of piercings also. Luis has been tattooing for about twenty years and is quite an accomplished artist. He paints in oils and not surprisingly his subject matter tends towards the dark side. This painting is 40″ by 84″ ink and acrylic on unstretched canvas.

The Santa Paula Art Museum has gallery talks every second Thursday of the month at 3:00 pm for talk and tour through the Museum’s galleries led by guest curators, artists, and experts.
