A pitcher's hand is holding a baseball in the manner to throw a fastball itch.

Sports Baseball Hand Holding Fastball

The fastball is the most important pitch in baseball. The faster and the more accurate, the better. Place your index and middle fingers across the seams where they form a horse-shoe shape with a comfortable amount of space between them.

Baseball Hand Holding Curve Ball

What is a curveball?  A curveball is a ball thrown that curves or “breaks” in a different direction before it reaches the batter in baseball.  How is it thrown?  Grip the ball between your thumb and middle finger. Place your middle finger along the bottom seam of the baseball and your thumb along the back seam.

Image painting print sport art of Christy Mathewson baseball player for the New York Giants and has his hand and arm extending out in a follow through of throwing a pitch.

Vintage Baseball Pitcher Christy Mathewson

Christy Mathewson was a pitcher who played seventeen years with the New York Giants from 1900 through the 1916 seasons. He is considered one of the mot dominant pitchers in baseball history. His nickname was “Big Six” Some thought it was because of his height, but others thought it originated when sportswriter Sam Crane compared him to New York City’s Big Six Fire Company, the fastest to put out the fire.

Painting image sports art of a wide receiver receiving a pass with his arms extended out.

Football Art Wide Receiver Catching a Pass

What is wide receiver? They can be called a wide-out or just a receiver. Basically it is a receiver who is the widest player out from the lineup of players and closest to the sidelines. Something that I had not thought about – but this can sometimes be the tight end who usually plays close to the offensive line. I always think of a wide receiver as someone that is “fast and furious” on the field not a lumbering, six feet, four inches, two- hundred and twenty five pounds blocking tight end. But, depending on where he lines up he can be a wide receiver.

Basketball Player with Basketball on his Hip

The player in this painting has the ball tucked under his arm during a timeout. Obviously this is not a pro basketball player as he would not be allowed to hold the ball. This is a street player taking a break. Why are there time out? Well, for me it is because I am tired and need a good long rest. I’m usually so tired I don’t even want to hold the ball but just want to sit down, maybe have some water and a donut then stand around and watch the rest of the game.

Basketball image of a baskeball players arm holding a ball obove the hioop and dunking it through the net for a score.

Basketball Dunk Shot or Slam Dunk With Hoop

The “dunk shot” or “slam dunk” is one of those shots that is difficult to miss in basketball. Although some players have been successful of messing up this simple play. It’s an easy shot if you are six foot six inches but a little tough for me. What I can’t do is jump high enough to get the basketball above the basketball rim so I, therefore, cannot slam the basketball through the hoop. I can barely shoot the ball from the foul line and have been known to use the “underhand” method.

Basketball Player Layup Shot

There is nothing like the joy of seeing a boy play a sport. This basketball image captures that feeling – that feeling of achieving something you have practiced at for some time. Image of basketball player flying through the air with a ball in his hand towards the basketball hoop to do a layup shot.

Hockey art painting image of two hockey teams in a face off on the ice.

Hockey Face-Off Play Sports Art

For those of you who are shopping for a nice hockey sports print for a gift to your husband, boyfriend, son wife, girlfriend, or daughter (in my case it would be my granddaughter as she is 7 years old and plays hockey) and you do not know what a face-off is – let me explain.

A face-off is how they start every game, periods and certain calls by the referees. The start of the game is at the center of the ice rink and other times a face-off may be at face-off spots or dots located on the ice in the four corners. The referee drops the puck between the sticks of two opposing players who are facing each other. The opposing players then fight for possession of the puck.
